This is a band that i will be totally stoked to see on warp tour this yr.
Techcore is basically dance/electronica mixed with modern/post hardcore + screamo.
There is a song on their myspace called “Honest Hitchhikers..”. Listen to it. I dig their old shit.
I really hope to hear / discover more bands like this. Their CD is available at the usual locations.
The members of Sky Eats Airplane started their musical careers in two separate bands. Brack began playing guitar in Backseat Driver in 2003. It was a Punk/Post-Hardcore group which consistently drew a hundred people per show. Meanwhile, Lee created a band called Our First Fall with Daniel Hunter (Now PlayRadioPlay!), which had an indie/post-hardcore sound. By the time Backseat Driver failed due to problems with band members, Our First Fall was drawing a consistent hundred people per show. The band quickly jumped at the chance to let Brack play guitar. Brack and Lee used their differing musical approaches to their advantage, combining both traditional and radical sounds to create a unique chemistry. Lee had an inventive musical approach and Brack fine-tuned songs with his natural, music mindset. This creative path led them to experiment with electronica programs. Eventually, the band came to an impasse with Brack and Lee deciding to pursue a hybrid genre of electronica music and hardcore rock.
The Result was Sky Eats Airplane, created in 2005 by Lee Duck and Brack Cantrell. Following the release of several demo songs, the band became a huge online success and became well known in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. For a total of three months, Brack and Lee worked on their self-produced album titled “Everything Perfect On the Wrong Day”. The entire nine-track album was exclusively recorded and produced by the duo. On July 15th, 2006, Sky Eats Airplane held their CD release party for their debut album, and alone drew 125 people for a fantastic live show.
In the Fall of 2006, Brack left the band due to wanting to pursue softer, acoustic music. Lee took this as a great opportunity to have a nationwide search for the perfect singer for the band. After over two months of searching, Jerry Roush was made vocalist for the band. During the same time, local Texas metal act (in theory) broke up. In no time, three of their previous members joined the band: Zack Ordway, Johno Erickson, and Kenny Schick. Thus, Sky Eats Airplane has evolved into a full 5-piece band with two guitarists and a bassist, drummer, and singer.
Fucking fort worth.

I don’t know what it is about Ft. Worth, but they chrun out some awesome bands. (low gear)
I just started listening to these guys tonight and i gotta say i dig. It’s a good mix of hardcore vocals, decent singing, throwdown riffs and the mix doesnt sound half bad.

So i passed my CEH test this past weekend with a 90%. It was actually a little more complicated than i thought. It was the standard multiple choice tech test, nothing suprising. But they did ask a bit more law questions than i expected, and of course theres the “super specific throw you off” questions like, “My cousin developed his own homebrew hacking tool that was featured on the oxygen tv network, what was it called?” In any case, this is another test that i have not paid out the ass for. If you pay to take boot camps, you are an idiot. All in all i paid $268 to get this certification. Yes $250 for the exam, $18 for an exam cram book off amazon. I first scoured the web to find all the training books and videos that i could. Started off with the Syngress CEH, which is fairly lame. Read that in PDF format from some website, then i found the CEH training videos online and watched those. Then i built a lab in my basement from some old computers and tried to use as much of this stuff as i could (snort / tcpdump / nessus / netcat) the standard stuff. I suppose it also helps that i’m a security analyst day to day as well, so i am always learning new stuff and seeing new exploits. Then i read the exam cram book, highly recommended. Finally i took a few practice tests. I started out getting around 70% and before i took my test i was getting 90% or higher.
Let me find you some prices of CEH training.
From the Eccouncil.org site, here is the price of the self study kit.
CEHv5 Ethical Hacking and Countermeasures - CEHv5 $440.00
CEH CBT Online Videos (Specializedsolution dot com)
CEHv5 Ethical Hacking and Countermeasures - CBT Video Training Access for 1 yr - $1795.00
and…practice tests
Preplogic - CEH v5 $99
+ the exam ($250) this comes out to a ridiculious $2584.
Psssssst. With a little effort and work you can pass this for under 300 bucks too. Not a huge secret.
But hey, i guess most people have their work pay for it, and mine is actually reimbursing me for the exam cost since i passed, so huzzah. $18 cert. w00.
I am not about learning how to pass a test. Don’t get me wrong. It took me a good 7-8 months to get all this done. I have seen people with mad certs get hired and fired within a week cause they don’t know shit. Don’t think that you can fool any employer into hiring you with a bunch of certs on your back. You can probably fool the test, but enjoy being a fucking hack. The rest of us that put the work in will continue to do just that.
It looks like my next test will be the SANS 503 Intrusion Detection in Depth. I’ll be doing a challange on this as well. Meaning that you just study and go take the test. It amazes me that SANS test weren’t proctored until this year, allowing for mega cheating. And you get to use the books???. Hello.. search pdf. I hope to get the 503 and the 560 (Network Penetration Testing and Ethical Hacking) before the end of this year.
I also want a drum set. Hello ddrum DIOS STN. Get in my mouth.

Not sure how common this is, but at least 2 people at my work have them (Matrix / LOTR).
When i need to focus and study I put the Back to the Future Trilogy on and go to town.
Doesn’t get much better than that. Not sure why. Kinda weird.

I was going to do a post about four letter lie, but victory records website design is awful and their popups keep crashing my firefox. If you can’t code multi browser user friendly pages, please go find a help desk job somewhere.
I watched the video for “feels like fame” and decided that until this band makes a respectable video, i will not write anything about them. The quality of the recording on their first disc is also rather sub par for this level of band. They apparently don’t have any videos of their second cd.
I really do like this band, but meh. maybe next time.
k, nevermind.

One of chicago’s finest bands in the past few years, from the ashes of the blank theory and reforma, ladies and gentlemen, madina lake.
Madina Lake is a pop punk/post-hardcore band from Chicago, Illinois. The group officially formed in 2005 when twin brothers Nathan and Matthew Leone, both former members of The Blank Theory got the money to make their demo from winning Fear Factor twins. The $50,000 was the start up money for Madina Lake. Completing the 4-piece band is Mateo Camargo and Dan Torelli, former members of Chicago rock band Reforma.
I remember going to blank theory shows and reforma shows back when i was in grindbox. Both of these bands were great.
Madina Lake themes its music in a town created in the mind of the bass player, Matthew Leone. It is set high in the American mountains, and, isolated from human contact, has remained in a 1950s themed era. The music provides an outlet for the band’s views on politics, culture, and the media’s obsession with celebrity status. The theme behind the band’s music is in relation to the mystery of Adalia. The album artwork shows images of her and the mysteries behind her and the town of Madina Lake.
Thats the one thing that really got me into bands like this and 30stm, they are bands built on a whole theme and have a identity all their own.
If you have Tap Tap Revolution on your IPod or IPhone, you are welcome. I made tracks for the whole cd. =)
They also duplicated with a staple of the chicago music scene, Breakthrough audio. Joey Guyette is a smart guy. Props.
In any case..here’s videos. These guys are great.

In my quest to stop being a fat guy i decided this morning to find out exactly how bad my favorite foods are.
We had Red Robin this weekend, i had the whiskey river bbq chicken wrap, which by itself doesnt turn out horrible. Sodium seems a little astronomical, but everything else looked ok. Good for a end of the week reward.

It’s kinda hard to find a download for netcat these days, espically for a win box.
Cryptcat and sbd are awesome. I couldn’t do my job without em.
Good rundown of netcat options and usage here.
