Suck on this Comcast.

Time to kick the skank ass ho to the curb.

After calling multiple times on my connection issues, no one returned my call. They told me i was going to get a dispatch, never called. fuck you too then.

My new internet is getting installed today. ADSL2+yo.

We’re going to make do with no TV and see if we can function without reality TV and G4 for a month.

However i’ve been researching legit tv progs. Here’s what i like in order from least to best.

5. TidalTV

The closest thing to actual TV online. Has a few channels, i hope they get more.

4. Hulu

http://www.paulyanez.com/labs/mymediaplayer/ — this makes hulu better.

3.  VeohTV

Incorporates lots of hulu videos with tons of online vids and a good search. The best thing about this prog is the interface.

2. Netflix Watch Now

If you have a subscription, theres tons of tv in their watch now sections. Quality is awesome.

1. Slingbox

Well it’s just tv. So its a complete replacement. Granted i’m just stealing my dad’s TV, its the best. Quality is decent, damn stable. Why isn’t there a port of this to XBMC / PS3 yet?

The whole point of this is to not watch tv and do stuff like work out, so we’ll see. There’s really nothing thats totally blew my mind yet.

*and there is always nbc.com / abc.com for that sitcom kinda stuff.

  • This made me cry

    cause it reminded me of..

Veronica Corningstone: Mr. Burgundy, I am a professional and I would like to do my job.
Ron Burgundy: Big deal. I am very professional.
Veronica Corningstone: Mr. Burgundy, you are acting like a baby.
Ron Burgundy: I’m not a baby, I’m a MAN, I am an ANCHORMAN.
Veronica Corningstone: You are not a man. You are a big fat joke.
Ron Burgundy: I’m a man who discovered the wheel and built the Eiffel Tower out of metal and brawn. That’s what kind of man I am. You’re just a woman with a small brain. With a brain a third the size of us. It’s science.

  • All things eeepc and Ubuntu

So tonight i pretty much spent all night reconstructing my eeepc and i think im almost done.

I first installed the default eeeXubuntu build found here. I didn’t want to use the internal 4g drive, so i used the 8g SD card i have as the main storage.

I didn’t mess around with many of the modifications, my wireless pretty much worked right out of the box so i didn’t mess with it. The eeeXubuntu isn’t 8.04 and i wasn’t ok with that.

I wasn’t able to upgrade to 8.04 on the internal 4g drive, maybe because of space, doesn’t matter.

Prior to upgrading, i decided to not fuck myself and actually research something that involves me doing lots of stuff that i don’t completely understand, so i found this script to fix lots of things.

I just updated as you would normally through the update manager, it took a hell of a long  time, like 3 hrs. Maybe my connection…the SD card doesn’t appear to be slow at all.

Oh, and yea, i installed off a 1g usb stick, guided the whole 8g sd card and let it do it’s swap thing. Pretty much just left that alone, defaults. No probs yet.

Upon reboot, the wireless was a goner, so i tried the script. Didn’t seem to do anything so i rebooted and tried it again. (Like it would matter..) nothing. So i found where the script was extracting the madwifi drivers to and did a make && make install and rebooted. Upon reboot my hotkeys worked and the wireless was ready to roll.  Sweeet.

I enabled community sources and grabbed the basics: compiz, emerald, nmap, cryptcat, wireshark, gnome-do, pork, awn, wine, and conky. I dig my conky config. It’s pretty standard, but it looks sweet. I spent a lot of time last week trying to get pork to exec or execp in conky, but i eventually decided to just have it auto start with the xfce4-terminal window fully transparent, no menu, no slider, no borders. Looks like it’s a part of conky. If i would have figured out how to do it i would have called it porky. Damn. So good. I made it autostart with a little batch script to sleep past compiz loading. standard stuff.

I like adobe air apps so i installed the prog by following the following instructions.

I get my emerald/beryl themes and wallpapers here.

Cranked the fonts down to Sans size 7, and made my launcher as small as i could and hide at the top and awn hide at the bottom.  (I only pretty much use it for the terminal launcher) Shortcutted the term to launch with crtl+z. Downloaded flash and made sure my orb was streaming stuff from home properly, yup yup.

Turn off snap. God thats annoying on a little screen. I guess thats pretty much it. If i have the energy, i’ll try to get slingbox and joost working with wine. Also need to get songbird on there and figure out why my cruzer won’t mount. Last.fm as well. Phew.

The 100 dollar question, will it suspend and resume properly? Answer is YES.

I’ve been awake since 8am yesterday.

  • LoveHateHero

Just started listening to these guys a few weeks back. They’re pretty cool, production on their newest disc (White Lies) sounds great, songs are catchy, good stuff.  Haven’t actually listened to the first one, but as you may know i don’t really like band’s first albums.

The story starts in the very same place that it does for most bands: begin recording demos, show demos around, label interest heats up, finish album, talk to labels, think some more about it, sign in blood, begin touring endlessly on said album. But its here where the differences between LoveHateHero and the rest of the bands today start to show.

Three days before the band’s 4th major tour on their first album, three of the members left. Including BOTH guitar players and one of the guitar players even takes the Van with him (due to being the owner of the band and needing to pay off the debt for buying the van). And all of the sudden, there were only two members left. Faced with the decision (and challenge) to either throw in the towel, or try and find a way to keep going, Paris and Pierrick chose the latter. To them, it was an easy decision in the face of the worst of circumstances.

And that decision has come to define this band as a band who does not stop, give in, skip shows, forget fans names, or by any other means, back down in the face of adversity. Brand new van’s gone? Fine. We’ll dump the bank accounts, bust out the circular saw, and take the road in a bunked-out former city transit van. What’s that about fried trailer axles, tires, fuel injectors? Who cares. Its time to rock. You can be guaranteed if something out there gets in the way of this band making it to the next show, they are going to find a way around it, or through it. And when they get to town and hit the stage, nothing matters anymore but the rock. Not how many kids are there, not how sick they are of one another, nothing. Guitar players want to stay home and cuddle with their chicks? Fine, with a couple phone calls from their drummer Scott Gee, a schooled musician and drummer since the age of 7, and a wink and a nod from the universe, Mike Russell shows up ready to jump in the band and leave home forever.

Couple weeks into the tour, with a good natured Canadian filling in on second guitar, they roll into another faceless club in upstate New York, only to find guitar whiz Kevin Gruft warming up for his local band - except his warmup sounds like George Dokken battling EVH.

The boys immediately lock him in their sights, and following his graduation from high school, fly him out to Los Angeles to start working on the 2nd album. This is how LoveHateHero gets it done - full-on commitment to the cause and connection with every living soul they play for. This is a band on the mission to bring their music as hard as possible to any stage that will have them. And deliver it all with a personal passion for the stories they tell, and the ones they create with their fans and friends all along the way.

We the Kings - Guilty Pleasure

Yeah, yea. Powerpop/Pop-punk is so last year. Still, this band is awesome, they write great songs. Expect to see lots more of them real soon. The singer looks like the singer from Eve6’s little brother. If he has one. Quite goonish. Good voice and awesome tunes tho.

The bandmembers first met at Martha B. King Middle School in Bradenton, and their name refers to this institution. The group began playing together while at Manatee High School in the early 2000s, and landed on the PureVolume Top 10 list after hiring a manager. After continuing success via internet sites such as MySpace, the group signed to S-Curve Records, who issued their debut self-titled album on October 2, 2007. The album peaked at #33 on Billboard’s Top Heatseekers chart.

This pop rock quartet hailing from Bradenton, Florida are currently signed to the independent label S-Curve Records.

Skyway Avenue - Love the handwritten signs…makes for a great, albeit very common, story.

  • Thought of the moment

If you want to know how good a band truely is, look at their 2nd commercial album. The first album doesn’t really count because they’ve had their entire lives to write it. 97% of the time the band has been touring their asses off and gets thrown in the studio immediately to record their 2nd album.

  • Kids in Glass Houses

They might as well be a slightly poppier Lost Prophets, good tunes. This is basically what i wish the lead singer from LP sounded like. less nasal.

“Kids In Glass Houses are a powerpop five-piece from Cardiff, South Wales with infectious hooks and vocals.

They signed a record deal with Roadrunner Records in December ‘07.

Formed in 2003 and since then have supported bands like Lostprophets, Cute Is What We Aim For, Simple Plan, Paramore, New Found Glory and 30 Seconds to Mars. They are starting to gain notoriety and recently played at Give It A Name 2007. In 2007, the band also appeared at The Full Ponty Festival, Download Festival, Hyde Park Calling, Farnham’s Summer Breeze Festival, Collision Course Festival and the Reading and Leeds Festivals.”

    :~$ man pork

“Pork is an ncurses-based AOL instant messenger client. It uses the OSCAR protocol (the one the windows client uses) to access AIM. Pork features Perl scripting, an online help system, the ability to configure nearly all aspects of the program’s look-and-feel, an alias system, and a powerful, fully-configurable key binding system. It supports being logged in with more than one screen name at the same time. The default look-and-feel of the client is modeled after the ircII IRC client. Anyone comfortable using ircII (or any clients derived from it, e.g. epic, BitchX, etc.) will feel comfortable using pork.”

It’s awesome. Basically you open a terminal, enter a few commands and BAM you’ve got terminal aim. This works for me as i don’t really use anything other than aim. I believe you can incorporate irc into it as well. It’s included in the standard Ubuntu repos.

Now if i can only incorporate it into conky…

My desktop decided to eat its MBR last night, so lots of Ubuntu posts are probably on the way.

  • Digsby.

You know what’s a sweet fing mac chat prog? Adium. Best chat prog ever. But as i am no longer a mac owner, and there is not yet a windows port…i hate them. very much. So i make do with pidgin/meebo cause hey, theyre fine, they get the job done. Enter Digsby. Yep everything i want in one program and it doesn’t look like it was developed for WinNT. You can find skins and a few conversation/emoticon themes @ digsbies.com. I think some of the Adium add-on’s even work right out of the box on digsby. It combines my gmail and facebook into a sweet good looking little window. A great thing about it is the popups. Yeah. In the popups when you get an IM, you have a little area in which to lol when you’re not loling, but just loling to get the other person to leave you alone. No IRC support tho. Maybe next release. MFLAWLMF.

    digsby.
